Miss that place, I lived on camp Courtney from 94-2000, too bad I was too young to take advantage of it. I could probably be driving around in a CA legal RHD rx7 right now. My dad imported his 94 RHD mini along with a few Japanese only bikes and was able to get them registered at the time with some help.
Anyways, I see it as spending $400 + $600 for a motor that you know will last longer rather than wasting time droping it in for it to possibly last a few months and needing to pay for the rebuild anyways.

I'm still struggling with the thought of tearing this thing open though. $600 for a rebuild kit seems absurd to me when the running motor was $400. I understand what you all are recommending and you really got me stuck. I've asked the local community for some advice too. Depending on the results I might break her open.
I don't know now.

If running motors are that cheap and available where you are at, slap it in as is and see how long it goes. If the effort for the R&R is not a problem, just treat them as disposable motors. Running motors aren't as available for most users on this forum so they will do what they can to build a "good" one and try to make it last as long as possible.
