Smog test?

Smog test?
This is a newbie question, but I'm gonna ask it anyway cuse its not discussed in the websites that I visited.
I'm goin to buy a 93 RX7 from a used car dealer with 75k on it. I ran a carfax check and found out that the car didn't passed the smog check recently. Keepin in mind that I live in California, an Ultra Lame Emmision Vehicles ( ULEV ) state, will this be a big trouble for me? Can this problem (passing the smog check) be easily fixed?
