slightly rough idle... possible chipped apex seal?

My car used to idle fine, but lately it has been idling at little rough, bouncing from 1100 rpm's to 1400 rpm's when the clutch is in. one of my friends with a T2 had an idle similar to mine and found out he had a chipped apex seal... is this something i should check? (ie: compression test)
