to slam or push hood closed?

Hello,

I am a new FD owner and was wondering how you guys close your hood. I tried to let the hood fall about a foot or so and can't get the hood to latch and lock. I had to push the hood with some pressure to get it to close. Trying to figure out the best way to close the hood without making pressure dents.

Thanks

There are two 10mm bolts you can loosen to adjust the hood lock.

You should also consider lubricating the hood latch mechanism to make sure that's not the problem. White lithium grease in a spray can works really well for me. (Use it on the inside of the door handles too!)

Slam it.

My hood latch broke.

I bet it was from slamming it.

Adjust it correctly so it will require a gentle push to shut.

I've trained myself never to touch the body over the years for fear of denting it inadvertently. I do the drop shut, from about 6-12 inches up.

Apparently...yes. Next time your in a parking lot just glance at the hoods of cars...including the late models. FWIW, people who pushed their hoods closed help put me through college.

Yep. I NEVER slam it. Lube it and try it before trying to adjust it.

I've never had the stock hood, I guess there is a small chance of denting it if you push it (Being aluminium)....Never had issues with my carbon hoods.

definitely depends on the hood.

if its the oem stock hood, it should close fine by dropping it from about 1' above the latch.

for aftermarket hoods, you're probably best closing the hood by pushing it into the latch.

Especially if there are hood pins involved.

I was a "dropper" for a good 9 years. Then I got paranoid that the loud clang was hurting something and so I became a "pusher" last year....a very gentle one at that. (Probably read something on this forum.) Now this thread is making me re-think my ways - not good for my OCD tendencies. Damns you guys!!!!

No wonder this car drives us crazy!!! We can't even come to terms on the simplest of things.

Ummm...seeing that the stock FD hood is not made out of copper or some other soft metal, closing the hood just like any other car will do. Like Theorie stated, about 12 inches. Maybe it's just me but this seems like a very obvious answer

I push my hood close.

Been doing that since i owned the car. Dont have any dents or anything.

My friend does the 1 foot drop and i couldnt see myself doing that on my car, when all it takes is 2 fingers with minimal pressure to close the hood of my car.

I have struts/dampers on my hood so dropping doesn't work.

Oh, very important, always push with your RIGHT hand...

The hood is thin, and is made aluminum, a very soft metal.

carbon hood. soo flimsy I think I'd crack it if I dropped it lol. gentle push does the trick. I need some hood pins though, friggin thing wobbles everywhere going down the highway. can't wait to get it painted too.
