single or twin turbo???

Well I was going to be gasp a spec-v when I was driving buy some streets in Calgary and saw an fc. Well it got me thinking that I miss my spec-v like hell and well an fd is in my price range. But if I get one should i leave the stock twin turbo configuration or get a bigger single turbo. Plus I heard that fd's are pretty bad on maintenance any truth to this and how would I keep the engine as cold as possible?? front mount intercooler, intake anything else???

Twins have wonderful throttle response in the low to mid rev range (2500 to 5500), but twins are limited in power production without a street ported motor, and even then, the street ported motor is limited by the smaller volume of air (compared with a single turbo) produced by twin 50-mm turbos. A big T78 single, or GT35/40 hybrid turbo makes bigger power as the revs climb past 5000 rpm. It all boils down to driver preference--low/mid range response, or top end acceleration? We can't have both unfortuntately...

I kind of have the best of both worlds with low-midrange response and great top-end. I'm still setup sequentially with upgraded twins. Single turbos are great for mid-top end performance but are laggy down low (2500-3K rpms) I hear people say "well, who drives around at that rpm anyways)...I do and don't like to downshift everytime I want power. Only downfall to sequential twins is the rat's nest but if the hose job is done it can work pretty well.

My J-spec twins make nearly instantaneous throttle response from 2200 rpm to 6000 rpm. FWIW, I do feel steady pull with a KDR street ported motor from 6000 to 8000 rpm; but this pull is NOTHING like the pull nocab72's GT35/40 single with monster port Pineapple motor made while I rode shotgun in his silver beast My butt dyno says ~100 more hp at the top end with Kyle's beast, than in my "Speed Sauce Racing Rx7 R1" (see my sig below for mod list). Last I read, Kyle's beast put out 450 rear-wheel-hp...
