single turbo'd frankenstein

nobody else has been able to help, hopefully you guys can.

i live in Japan and bought a 1994 RX-7 with a 1999 engine with an HKS T405 (pretty sure, but if someone calls BS, i'll verify) pumping out about 7psi (1/2 bar), producing around 300hp. The guy I bought it off of knew a whole lot more than me about the RX's in general, but he got shipped out, so i'm on my own out here because I don't speak much Japanese.

So here is my problem: To get this car to pass the emissions, i was told i need a smog pump. the car has one cat, and not much else. has anyone ever heard of installing a smog pump on one of these cars? any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

while i freely admit to be a newbie about the RX-7's, i'm not totally car stupid, but most of my experiance is Honda's and Nissan (owned an Integra and 300ZX before). ANY help would be much appreciated. thanks!!

I'm not familar with the japan spec cars but the us spec cars came with an airpump that plumbs into the stock maincat. You can pass with just that 1 cat

What emissions standards are you trying to pass? You can't pass with a single turbo in CA, for instance, so installing an air pump still would not make the car pass. Are you trying to pass in Japan, or making plans for shipping the car somewhere else?

Find another smog place. Most likely the smog pump will not fit with your single turbo. As far as the engine, there is no difference in the block between years '92-'02. He may have said that just to make you feel like it's good deal. Try posting in the Far East / Japan section.

If you have a cell phone, PM me and I can send you my cell phone number. I know what you need to pass JCI inspection

He HAS TO HAVE THE STOCK PUMP to pass JAPANESE inspection. There's more to the JCI inspection than just the smog pump, but a lot of it is emissions.
