This might sound crazy, but have you tried disconnecting the electrical plug for the Idle Control solenoid valve? You would need a pretty significant source of air to idle at 2700 RPM. I suspect a huge vacuum leak, or maybe the AWS solenoid, the thermowax throttle stop, or an idle solenoid that isn't being controlled properly.

Another thing, it will definitely help if you can adjust the fuel so the AFRs are closer to 12-13 when idling, I can't imagine the car idling well at 9 or even 10:1 AFR. It will also help to keep the ignition timing around the same value when idling, this can help avoid surging or stumbling at idle. Then again, you should probably seek the help of an experienced PFC tuner if you didn't already know how to do this yourself.

Any one thought it might be compressor surge due to you sticking a large blower on the side my 96 FD did it till I fixed up the idle on the E-manage. It could be burning oil as it is a new turbo (I am assuming here) and its a floating bearing it over filling it as your Oil return line is kinked or too small, it will also over flow due to your oil level being too high (all learnt though doing it my self). Is the smoke blue of white?? As if she not tuned yet the fuel system will just dump as much fuel as they can in there. Oh so fun.
Sorry for going on there is my 5cents

Could it possibly have anything to do with the engine?

Your PFC needs a tune. Take it to someone who can do a dyno tune on it and know what they are doing.

So basically this couldn't have anything to do with the engine? I'm having troubles too. I'm afraid it might be an o-ring or something.

Noone said it couldn't be the engine.

Shaman, buy a compression tester and do a compression test if it is worrying you.
