Single Turbo Convert.

can someone please tell me why people like to do the single turbo conversion? i remember someone telling me it's because of carbon build up on the exhaust side.
or something like that.

Higher end HP. But it has lag depending on how it is setup.

although this is a topic that's been already covered i'll tell you a few things

advantages of single turbo:
-less heat stuffed into the engine
-consistent powerband rather than dual stage (some people claim that when it kicks in while midturn will cause the car to get more tail happy)
-the manifold on the stock twins is restrictive and known to crack causing boost problems
-less headache diagnosing boost problems

damn it's late, i can't think straight, i'll come up with some more later..

Really it just comes down to simplicity and the ability to make much more power. It is also much easy to control boost levels with an external wastgate.

I'm thinking of going single bacause my turbos are old and need rebuilding AGAIN... OEM turbos are good turbos until they need to be rebuilt.

Why am I going single rather than purchasing a set of new or 99 twins? The price is one reason why and add that I already have most of the components to go single (except for a fuel rail an injectors) so I'm 3/4 there. Also don't forget the power.

Night and day diffrence. My best set (I went through four) running no seq put down 300hp. Not bad it felt strong but high air intake and high coolant temps were always a problem due to design of twins- and the aftermarket SMIC I had. I was running 11-13 psi

Now my T78 diffrent story, at 15psi it feels like someone shot the car out of a cannon. Lag isnt bad especialy when 40-120 mph is almost instant. Only problem with my single is finding a place to drive fast without 50 on may ***.
