Sideview mirror disassembly

I'm in the process of repainting the car and can't find any info on getting the mirror out of the plastic housing. I looked thru the service manual and it shows only how to replace the glass. Can someone enlighten me?

Did you remove the glass yet? If I recall correctly you have to do so to disassemble it. Use a heat gun and gently pry the glass off. Its been awhile since I had one appart though.

yes you have to heat up the glass...there is a thermo type adheasive that you need to get soft; be careful because I burned the crap out of myself on the adhesive--it gets very hot!

Consider pulling the side mirrors from the car and taping the mirrors?

I wrote a little writeup some tome back here when I took mine apart - it's easy to do. Follow the manual and use the search feature here.
