Shuts off when lights comes on
Hi Electrical Gurus.
I'm working on an FD which is giving me a friggin headache.
Problem is: As soon as i turn on the headlights, engine shuts off immidiately.
Also I just noticed that the Fuel Pump Relay is clicking if I have the lights on(engine off) and use the left turn signal.

When I got the car, it had a fried front wireing loom, I replaced that and wired the headlights via relays, now you may think that could be the culprit, but no - engine also dies if I wire them back into the original loom. And this way I think less current would be drawn on the harness hence lees work for the EL-Unit - Right ?
I've been looking for the EL-Control Unit and so far this is what i've found.

I realise that it looks different than US models, this is a Japanese car and obviously the US manual is not helping me as the pin-out is different.
Thanks in advANCE

Hi Kim,
Not sure if this will help you, but I had a similar problem, and the root cause may be the same.
I did a FMIC swap into my RX7 and during that process, I disconnected the two front ground connectors, and forgot to bolt them back to the chassis. (The ones that each have around 5 -7 seven small black wires into a cream coloured plastic terminal block, with a piece of metal with a bolt hole in out sticking out the top)
Anyway car started up fine, but as soon as I turned on any electrical load (lights, wipers etc) the engine died.
--- I would check out your grounds, they may be not be bolted to the chassis if you changed out your loom.
(This was a Japanese model rx7 too)
edit: that unit in the picture doesn't look like the main ECU .... you will find that unit under a plastic panel on the left side of the passenger footwell (passenger side being the left side of a JDM vehicle)
Hope this helps in some way, and if it does, post back here and let us know!
