I am supposed to be picking up a 1993 R1 on tuesday, however I just ran a carfax and it said it's had 5 owners and one accident. I brough it to Ito at JR's and he said everything on the car was in very good shape, giving a compression or 122psi and 125psi. I was very set on this car however this new information is kind of making me weary of the purchase. What do you think??

The car is what it is. I'm about the 4th owner of mine and it only has 57k. If I got my conversions right, the compression is about 8.3 kg/mm^2, which is good.

You might consider getting the past maintenance history - by taking the cities in the Carfax, and contacting dealers/rotary shops in the areas to see if they've worked on that car (use the VIN).

But mostly it's the inspection that counts.

I wouldn't worry too much about the car fax thing. My BMW came up as having an accident and I never did. I did have an incident where I ran over some debris on a state highway and filed a report which was the 'accident' in question on the car fax.

If a tuner like Ito checked it out and gave it a seal of approval and you got those compression numbers, you should be good to go.

The guy wanted 17, i talked him to 16k. I just called him and told him about the carfax and he told me he was sorry he didn't inform me because he aswell didn't know about it. He said if it makes it any better he'll lower it to 15,500 for the inconvenience. The car is a 1993 R1 with 67k on the clock and about 28k on the motor.
