ON Should I replace Engine+Trans or just Engine by itself?

Hello,

Okay well I bought a 1992 Efini RX7. Odometer reads 132,000km and the engine is shot and has already had a rebuild as far as I know (no receipts for proof). So my plan is to swap out the engine for a lower km JDM one. I 100% understand the risk I am taking but it is the only option that fits my budget.

My original plan was to pull engine+trans together and swap in a fresher engine+trans. But after looking at it today, it looks easier to just swap the engine and put in a newer engine (it will also save me about $300 right now)

So my question is, would it be worth it to swap the transmission while I'm already doing all this work?

Or should I just leave the transmission in there and bolt up a newer engine to it, and run the transmission till I actually know I need to replace it?

I'm just looking for any thoughts/opinions or personal experiences to help me make my decision.

Thanks,
Joe.
