Should I just give up?

Should i just give up? My fingers are frost bitten and numb. My mind is slowly being driven over the edge. I seriously don't know what the fuck to do anymore. Today I had repaired my TPS its screw holes were cracked and it wasn't stayin in place. It was starting just fine rlast thursday which was the last time I had attempted to start it. After putting it all back together and my 99 spec bumper and fogs on today it attempted to start it, only problem was i heard a large pop sound as it was starting and then it died instantly....HAVE I LOST COMPRESSION? It started to smoke instantly from the exhaust side of the engine and the exhaust was billowing huge gobs of white smoek into the garage.....I'm losing my mind you guys. I seriously don't know what to do anymore? Maybe it's just karma maybe I wasn't supposed have one of these? Maybe I'm not supposed to be on the road at all. Maybe its just fate that I shouldn't have a working dream car.

I'm taking a 2 month break from all this bullshit. I give for now.

Xeros - obviously not worthy to be in the presence of great drivers and tuners such as yourselves.

check the map sensor?

Xeros 11-29-04 05:35 PM

where the hell is the MAP sensor? I looked in the manual and couldn't find its location.

spekdah 11-29-04 05:47 PM

Map Sensor, on the drivers firewall at the back of the UIM ( upper intake manifold) near the throttle, its a small black box with 'sensor' on it , it has a plug going into it but also has a small vacume tube running from it to the back of the manifold, make sure this is plugged in .

r0t0r-rooter 11-29-04 05:54 PM

Ya, what he said /\

When I changed my clutch hose with the help of a friend, I must have loosened mine. The next day while driving around, I heard a pop, and my car ran like ass, w/all the smoke & wanting to stall, etc. I thought I blew my motor as well, and thought of fixing it with a sledgehammer
Big relief!

Xeros 11-29-04 05:54 PM

yeah definitely plugged in! I actually though it was the probat first too, when it wouldn't start and stay but it is fine.....

that bit in the circle

Xeros 11-29-04 06:02 PM

yes yes plugged in. connected and everything

Xeros 11-29-04 06:04 PM

That wouldn't cause a loudpop sound would it?

widebody2 11-29-04 06:05 PM

you checked the other end of the tube too? It should go to a nipple on the back of the uim. It would make sense that this was the problem since you were messing around back there with the tps. I'm not sure if many people have popped an engine just after start up...w/o actually running thecar. Maybe I'm wrong.

widebody2 11-29-04 06:06 PM

Yeah it definitely could. Mine fell off when I did a greddy elbow and the car ran exactly like it had a blown motor.

reaalllyy.....could it get clogged with from the inside of UIM, with say off some silicone gasket maker?

Xeros 11-29-04 06:11 PM

what about a lot of billowing smoke? Woudl it casue that too? Especially form the exhaust end of the engine?

deffinitly

Xeros 11-29-04 06:15 PM

any other ideas? What woudl cause that much smoking though?

Xeros 11-29-04 09:10 PM

Just double checked the MAP sensor. Wont start. Starts with gas pedal all the way down on the floor and revs up very slowly but will not pick up speed and dies the minute the foot comes off the gas. Coudl the sensor it self be fried? I did blow into the vacuum hoses ot try and clean them out and they seemed to be passing air perfectly but still no go. What else would cause this?

Xeros 11-29-04 09:14 PM

Do you guys think I should ummmm.......replace it? How much would that COST ME?

Xeros 11-29-04 09:29 PM

More questions keep opping up in my mind to more I think about it. Would there be any damage to the engine....If i tried to start it in that state a couple of times?

Madmax670 11-29-04 09:35 PM

make sure that map sensor hose is on the right nipple, i put mine on something that didnt actually have a hole on it, it looked like the right place for it, but that is exactly what happened, i floored it and it died, but when i gave it a lil gas it was okay, double check that sensor man

Xeros 11-29-04 09:50 PM

See the problem is you can't actually check the sensor it self to see if it is clogged you know? SO I have no clue but I am more then 1000% positive it is all hooke dup to thr right nipple and what not seeing as how it has not been disconnected lately at all. Could a diffrent loose vacuum hose cause this dilema?

1QWIK7 11-29-04 10:03 PM

i had a similar problem last week only it wasnt as major as yours..

i had my car sit for over 2 days, when i started it up the next morning, it ran and idled like shit..i couldnt really tell if it was smoking (other than the normal smoke cause it was cold outside) and my a/f would show dead lean (yes i know the gauge is useless)..all i did was reset the ecu and everything went back to normal..

idk, maybe try that?

Xeros 11-29-04 10:06 PM

how did you reset the ECU?

Xeros 11-29-04 10:38 PM

Okay I've been searching the entire forum for proper procedures for ecu resetting. And you knwo what Forum searches suck and we all know it. I've gone through 20 and not one says hwo to but that they simply did.
