should I get new plugs and wires?

I'll be getting my new engine put in soon and I'm wondering whether or not I should get new spark plugs and wires while I'm at it. The plugs I have now have about 9K miles on them and I don't think the wires have ever been replaced. I'm thinking it would be a good idea since I don't want worn out parts putting the condition of my new engine in jeopardy. Please give me some advice.

i usually change my plugs every 5-10k depending on how i use the car...
the wires maybe every 30K...

best bet is to just go ahead and change both regaurdless, since you dont know how long its been. besides, its only about $60 for both. just keep in mind its better safe than sorry.

Hey Rix7, how are things going with Carlos? If I were you, I'd get a new set of both. I run 9s for both leading and trailing ... and get some 8mm wires ... or maybe 10mm. 8mm will be enough, though. Len ("Bacon") knows good wires, Taylor Spiro something available through Summit for like $40ish, I think? Maybe he'll chime in, but if not, drop him a PM and he'll help you out with part numbers. Oh and I have a set of basically new plugs (never run) that the Mazda dealer put in my car when I had the blown motor tested (yeah even though I told them that the plugs had 1000 miles on them and they're fine). If you want those instead I'll sell them to you for a few bucks. They're NGK whatevers from Mazda and they're new (just no box).

I hope everything is going well for you!

DK, things are going great with Carlos! I got my engine just fine and now I'm finally ready to get it installed. I got really lucky and found out that Shaun(tnt) has a performance shop around where I live and he said he would be glad to install my engine for me. Now I don't have to worry about the Mazduh dealer doing the installation. I would love to buy your plugs that you have! If I remember right, you can't get spark plugs much better than the factory NGK ones, so I may as well just go with those. I haven't looked into any other ones either, so I really don't have any idea of what else to go with. Maybe you could give some advice on the wires because I don't know exactly which ones to get. I've heard both bad and good things about Mag. wires. Do you think I would need wires as big as 10mm? I do plan to go all out with my car (single turbo, 450-500hp on high boost), so would I need the 10mm in this case instead of 8 or 9mm? Thanks for all of your help! It's good to hear from you again! Have you done anything else to your FD in the last few months?

One added suggestion ... replace the stock ignition harness. It is the one that plugs into all 3 coils and the main harness. It is $40 or so from Mazda ... well worth every penny ... I have seen many many bad ones and I've added this to my standard list of upgrades for new buyers.
