should I buy this FD

ok so here's the deal. It's a fairly stock 1993 rx7 r1 in blk/blk

it's got a complete history, only relibilty mods really done to it (down pipe, 3mm seals, etc.) the only actual performance mod is the replacement of the cat back with an apexi unit.

it's got 86,600 miles on it, had a rotary performance rebuild (full documentation) at 84k, it's been adult driven and the current owner has had it since 5k miles. he's also the second owner.

he wants 16,900 for it.

it's in great shape, back in 12/05 it even got a fresh coat of paint.

advice??

$16,900 sounds like too much. Maybe 15k if the paint, body, and interior are clean. Although, buying an FD with a new motor, can save headaches over a higher mileage motor.

agreed with fdeeznutz, bargain it down like every1 mentioned. Never paid for what the seller asked for =)

I'm not sure what these other guys are talking about. The motor has less than 3k miles on it and Rotary Performance is a well-known shop. The R1 model has dual oil coolers, which is a really nice thing to have if you live in hotter climates. Assuming the turbos are working properly (10-8-10 boost pattern in 3rd gear), that sounds like a fair price. If you want to bargain then try to bargain, but you might want to check KBB.com first. Check the value of a '93 with 3,000 miles is worth compared to the value of a '93 with 86,000 miles.

If the car needs any sort of maintenance (new tires or battery for instance), mention that to the owner and ask him to decrease the price accordingly.

I base my opinion on two things.

1) I paid 18K for my FD 4 years ago. 94 with 54k, reman with 2k miles, and a new engine wire harness.

2) I'm trying to acquire a 93 silver/black touring with 60k. It has Tein flex coilovers and a Mazdaspeed CF hood everything else is stock including the motor. His original asking price was 18k. 6 months later still no buyer, and I think he is down to around 14k.

I can only speak of the AZ market which I'm sure is different than other states.
