shock/spring installation question

installing shock and springs.. question is..

on the rear shock i'm putting in.. i first attached the shock/spring assembly into the body. but.. then the only way i can get the holes on the bottom of the shock to match up with the upper arm is to push the shock in about 1 inch. is that okay or should it be matching up perfectly w/o pushing..

is there something i need to adjust? ... don't see anything

Are you putting in aftermarket shocks and springs or stockers? Are you sure that you compressed the spring onto the shock good enough? I replaced my springs with Racing Beat's and it went in with no probs.

You should be attaching the shock at the control arm first....then angling it and raising the control arm to go up through the shock tower.

i c how that works.

but that doesn't change the lateral stress that the shock will encounter in its mounted state... since its still attached to the same 2 points.. right?

the way i did it i guess my arms were in the weight-loaded position.. and rather than have the weight of the car do the bending, i did..

I don't really understand how this is an issue. When you're putting it back together, get the three mount bolts bolted on the top and get the control arm to line up with the shocks and your golden. I'm not trying to be the all knowing all but it has worked for me for all these years. Good luck brother!

You may have to remove the rear sway bar in order to line things up properly. There shouldn't be any "big lateral loading" to get things lined up.
