Shifting Hard
Shifting Hard
I will try to explain things as accurate as I can so I can find out whats going on without getting any false information.
Anyway here goes.
I have a 93 Stick with 117,000 Miles.
Whenever I try to shift sometimes it harder to shift then other cars.
Like I just test drove a EVO and the new 8 and it actually slides around.
Mine, I have to force it and sometimes it feels like it gets stuck.
What do you think it is?
You think a new engine torque brace would fix this?
The thing is, even when the car isn't moving or revving, it still gets hard to shift.
Could it be the fluid? Please let me know.

Re: Shifting Hard
As mentioned it could be bad shifter bushings or worn synchros and with 117K on the clock, I'd assume that to be the case. A good quality synthetic (Redline, Amsoil, etc.) *might* be able to smooth out your shifting. Give that at try.
I notice the same symptoms with mine, and I also have a noisy throwout bearing. Could the throwout bearing make it hard to shift if it's not taking the load off the tranny correctly?

Buy a jack and jackstands and 2-3 quarts of Redline MTL. Check the archives for instructions on changing tranny oil. It made a huge difference on my car. The interior parts over the tranny also felt cooler to the touch.
But in general, those newer cars will shift smoother than the 7. they are just designed to be like that. Learn to heel-toe downshift also.

Just gets stuck.
Whats the sign of a bad clutch though?

BTW, a lot of people don't recommend Redline MTL. They say it's too thin and recommend from Redline their MT90 instead. I'm using Royal Purple and like it alot.
