Thumbs up Shifter Bushings Demystified

Mazda parts fiche (section 1720) is incomplete for 93-95 models. The third picture compares the stock plastic bushing to the mazdaspeed aluminum one.

Excellent job! Glad you took the time to put this together!

BTW, most FD's have worn out shifter bushings. You'd be surprised how good the shifter feels with new bushings installed, makes a HUGE difference.

Also, there's a company that's reproducing the inner shift boot for Miata guys and sells them on Ebay. Mazda wants like $30 or something which is stupid - it's been the SAME DAMN PART since the 1st gen RX-7, that should be a CHEAP part. Anyhow, the Ebay reproduction looks to be good and about half the price. Haven't tried it personally, but there ya go.

I was struggling with this too a while back.

Sent an email to Ray at Malloy, and in a few days had a little box with all my bushings, boots, etc to do a complete refresh.

Said it before, will say it again. Ray is the man.

Yup, Ray is the man with a plan

to echo Stretch, I see more and more FDs come into the shop with the shifters flopping around like spaghetti. Usually the bottom bushing is smashed into pieces and the middle bushing is basically disentegrated.
