Sharp turn with jerking motion

This only happens when I turn my steering wheel all the way to the left. Sometimes I take a sharp turn turning left the car goes into a jerking motion like as if theres something wrong with the front driver side tire. When making full right turns it fine. Any idea what this may be?

Start with the simple stuff. Tire pressure, alignment, worn suspension components.

But if I were to guess with the little information given, I'd say the problem is the nut behind the wheel.

Ok I assume your car is a RHD right?

I have a fairly similar problem where if I take a left turn there is a bit of a jerking motion. This is because I bought a very crap down pipe which doesn't exactly clear the steering column correctly. This means that the column gets caught every time I turn left. At slow speeds I can turn left without it getting caught but at high speeds I will feel it jerk alot as it comes in contact with the dp. For some unknown reason I can turn right at any speed without a problem.

The following pictures demonstrates what I mean which may not particularly be your problem.

+1 yeah it could be something as simple as alignment. but i'd pop the tire off and check the strut also, see if thats ok.

hopefully its something simple, suspension shimmys are a bitch to fix

if you feel the need to test yer problem under high load...dont. if you dont have a fuel serge cover, you will prob blow yer engine.

doesnt have the same affect with hard right turns if your wondering

How worn are your tires?

Sometimes tires will get into a "stick-slip" situation with full lock on certain pavements. Tires with worn or shaved tread blocks will be more prone to do this (deeper tread deforms and "squirms," minimizing this tendency)

The stick-slip is the tire/suspension deforming due to the front steering geometry not having 100% "ackermann" (100% ackermann allows the front tires to roll at low speeds with no slippage or side loading - ackermann is named after the guy who figured out the geometry necessary to do this).

So, does it only happen in certain places, or every time you turn full left?

Thanks for the posts guys. Ill tell you a bit more about my car. Its a 93 Left hand drive, I have 17 inch rims and the front tire are almost new except they are stretched, meaning that the rims are wider then the tires so they look a little stretch. This may be the reason? Back tires are bald. I had recently had my wheel align and I got the guys to check everything over and they found that my front driver hub bearing was no good so I got that replaced.

"Stretched" low-profile tires have very little lateral compliance, making them very stiff laterally and, maybe, more prone to the "stick-slip."

So, yes, that may be the cause.
