Yep. I personally have this little cupholder that slides into the door panel, where the window goes out, and hangs the cup holder itself on the passenger side door. When no one is there, that is where my drinks go, otherwise the passenger earns their keep (how am I supposed to drive, shift, talk on my cell phone, AND hold a cup at the same time?)

the cupholder i use slides between the center console and passenger seat and holds two drinks and has a spot for ur cell phone. $5.32 @ autozone. And before that, like everybody else, the passenger earned their ride by substituting for a cupholder

Yeah, I need one too. Mine is/will be a daily driver. Check out this post though. Someone used a Taurus part for the cup holder. Wonder how well it worked...

Hey Eric,
get a blow rotor and leave it on your passenger side floor...the hole in it is perfect size for a cup holder...the thing is so heavy it doens't move...Marshal at the Meet in Tulsa had one and said it was one of his best mods.

Dude, I'm tellin ya...this thing is rock solid...Marshal took me around a an offramp going like 60 with the tail hung out and that thing never budged. You should be able to get one where the apex seals were ripped out of place and is unusable...Plus it's more unique than the clip thing.

and i really cant stand when people say..."you shouldnt drive an FD if you need a cup holder"

ok...its an awesome car. it has some extreme limits. but they are also street cars...who the freak drives their FD like it was built to be driven on the street? if you do....you dont deserve to be driving at all.

i love what HeatTreated said...."you baby yours, and i'll enjoy mine."

Damn, if only i can find a pic of the Altima cup holders. Curse my mom for selling that car and getting the new Altima (Though it is extremely comfortable inside).

Basicly its kinda hide-awayish and I think I can probably fit it in the wide space between the seats. I think I'll get to work on designing it now. Then I need to find someone who can do custom interior modifications.

I use the same method as Street King - between the center console, seat belt buckle, and seat. Just get one of those Gatorade Propel sports bottles with the twist open spout and put whatever you drink in it. No need to do some half-assed cupholder mod.

For those of you interested, I just got an email from the guy who makes the cup holder - Marc. They are $50. I cut and pasted part of his email below:

FD cupholders for sale-
Just to let you all know that when the current batch I made up is all gone, I will be making no more. I have about 14 left. Here is the information.... Not cheap but well worth it. Never buy another one.
Hangs in the parking brake handle well and folds open for use. The FD product adds brackets to the Fischer cupholder as there is NO OTHER FLAT and SECURE place to mount it in the FD otherwise. So the extra cost is
for the brackets and assembly.
http://www.vehiclecontrols.com/produ..._cupholder.htm
-------------------------------
Look at it this way-it costs less than Zaino and lasts longer! (and is much less work)!
(I am a list member who makes these in my garage-it is not really a business, so forgive the commercialism!) First come first serve on them.

Note: Fits only third gen. 93-current rx7s; the brackets fit in the emergency brake well and the unit is completely removable-no permanent mounting.
No holes to drill, Velcro to paste, etc. However, it is very steady when put in place.
Fits cups from 2-1/4 to 3-1/4", folding cupholder itself is made in Germany, same as the one in the Mercedes 500SL. Very high quality, you won't find this at Wal Mart/Poop Boys/Autozoned/NAPA. Folded cupholder
without brackets measures 4-3/4"Lx4"Wx1-1/2H. As sold for third gens with brackets attached, it is
4-3/4"Lx4"Wx2-7/8"H. You have to have it folded with a rider in your passenger seat (your other cupholder of choice), however!

How to order:

Send check/money order (preferred method) to Marc Wiese, 3484 Milford Cove,
Collierville, TN
38017-3606
Current price is now $50.00 which includes a usa average of $5.00 for Priority Mail shipping.
If using Paypal (www.paypal.com) to email funds, add $2.00 for service charges for a total of $52.00. The cupholder itself can be seen in the Griots Garage/Autosport catalogues if you prefer to roll
your own. For my installation with my special brackets added to the cupholder, take a look at some pictures posted The Interstitial Page
http://home.midsouth.rr.com/interstitial/intstial.htm
and or Steve Cirian's "interior" pictures on his web page- http://www.ScuderiaCiriani.com/rx7
I was looking into cheaper holders that will work, but so far they all seem way inferior-quality, size of cups they hold, steadiness, etc (but far cheaper) unbefitting the rx7. I won't bother with any other design.

1. I can't believe how many posts there are on this subject.......
2. I can't believe I got suckered in as well...........

I have a cheap-0 plastic unit, that has this swivel clip thingie on it.............It gets double duty on my riding lawnmower for my brewskies...............and it also clips into the hole in the console where the emergency brake comes through; it clips between the plastic and the leather boot and then hangs down on the passeger side of the console............works like a friggin charm and probably wouldn't cost more than 6 or 7 bucks..........

Can't rememeber where I got it, but just look for one that has a big plastic clip as part of a swivel, with the rest being the cupholder itself..............

If you beg like MF's and really need it..........I suppose I could post pics....................

Another way of tackling the problem is finding a cup that does not need to be held. I like to drink coffee on my daily commute and after experimenting with a few cups I finally found one at Starbucks that can be laid on its side and will not drip. Essentially it is a stainless steel portable coffee press that holds about 12 oz. Most cups that are covered have a small hole in the top for air which will drip the liquid if it is put on its side on the passenger seat. This cup has a plunger in the top which is airtight when it is pushed all the way down. There is an opening lid on the top which allows you to drink your beverage and then close it tight when you are finished sipping. It keeps hot liquids hot...and cold liquids cold for quite a while. It is unusual for me to leave it in the car when I park for work...and find that I have fairly warm coffee when I leave at night.
