I just got my FD and already I have spent around 5k in upgrades and another 7k for body work and a new paint job. After that, I expect another 1k in ugprades and then my life will be complete. How sad is that. I cant wait until things start breaking down. Who needs to invest in the future anyway.

meh, I find that once you run out of **** to do you start to get bored with the car. After a couple thousand miles of trouble-free, reliable driving I start looking at the car and finding things I want to improve or change. And every time something breaks, I learn a lot more.

If working on the car is an obstacle to enjoying it, in the end an Rx-7 is probably not for you. If working on the car is a large part of the enjoyment itself, then that will keep you going--if the financial cost doesn't kill you. But you pretty much have to make big sacrifices. All your other hobbies take a back seat. Expensive vacations? Nice clothes? You can get a lot of mods for that... besides, it's not like Europe or the fashion industry are going anywhere. Parts are becoming more and more scarce for our cars.
