Seriously..... does it EVER stop?!!

I have had been working on my car for months now. It seems like I am falling into a cycle......

1. I find something that needs to be done

2. I order the parts to complete what needs to be done

3. I get to work on what needs to be done

4. I find something else that needs to be done

5. I order new parts for what needs to be done

6. Repeat

When ever I take something off.....something else rears its ugly head.

Will it ever END!!!!

Yes. At some point you'll have replaced everything and be set for another 10-15 years.

What do you expect from a 15 year old car? Any car this old will follow the same cycle.

The cycle ends only when you are able to remove all emotion from your decision making process and you come to the realization that it makes no economic sense to strive for perfection on a 15 year old Japanese sports car.

That said, I have spent about 15 thousand dollars on my '94 R2 in the past two years and it has been driven about 200 miles in that time.

Have had mine 10 years now, and it still hasn't stopped. Highest maintenance car I've ever had, and I've only driven it 18,000 miles in those 10 years. For the cost per mile, you have to be stupid to keep an FD, or just love working on cars. If neither of these apply to you, then you should get rid of it.

It will stop soon, right after the For Sale sign goes in the window.

Mine always gets me coming out of winter storage. Goes in fine, comes out with something broke. Never fails.

wow this is a mood killer... i only just got mine. But I bought mine with a lot of problems so I kind of knew what i was getting into. If I do a complete rebuild with a new single turbo setup I should be fine engine-wise for a while right?...i hope so!

No!!! Once you have replaced everything, the items you replaced first will need to be replaced again. It will never end!!!! You can only hope that whatever needs to be replaced will still allow you to drive your car safely.

I bought my Fd fully expecting this cycle that being said, first week i had it and its was time for new twins. I'm hoping the special love given to my rebuilt engine will keep it on the road for a long time *knock on wood*

I just finished rebuilding the engine have a nice paint job done. Now working on my interior, trying to relocate the gauges. And next thing I know is got to get my seats refurbished and maybe its time to change tyres. Bushing already been changed. Taking out the audio system. And last thing is to

pray that nothing breaks in 2 to three years time.

I think everyone of us who has owned an FD for any real length of time has gone through this. There is a stage in the begging where it feels as though the car will never be right. In addition I beleive this is the great equalizer with our cars, those of us that are either dumb enough or stubborn enough persevere. This is also the main reason so many FD's have fallen into disrepair. The young or ignorant owners just can't handle the amount of time, money, paitence, and work these cars take.
The funny thing is everytime I think about another car the only ones that are appealing are high maintence sports cars.

Some of us must enjoy the abuse...

ABSOLUTELY!! Furthere more, lets say you manage to save up some money in your savings account - to the tune of $3,459.67.

It is an absolute fact of life that as soon as you have $3,459.67 in that account that your FD will break AND when you get the call from the shop, the mechanic will tell you that it will cost $3,459.67 to FIX!!!!

GAWD how I love the FD.
