Seat Belts question

Has any one changed their odd looking passenger side seat belt clip to one like the driver side? How about custom webbing? Looking at getting my webbing done in different color but while I was in the process I would like to change the passenger side clip to match the driver side.

Interested also, I'm wanting to know if a drivers side seat belt assembly will bolt on to the passenger side to get rid of the ugly passenger buckle

I was looking into doing this as well. I found a place for the webbing, the problem is finding someone to do the stitching where it loops through the floor anchor. I can put the belt together, but DOT requires a certain type of thread be used. I'm sure an upholstery shop could handle it, I just haven't had time to check into it. I planned to just go to Mazda, and pick up another driver side belt buckle, and use that. I work for Mercedes, and they loose the plastic buckle retention buttons all the time, so I have a butt load of those at my disposal.

I practiced this on one of my old tan belts and it seems to work. I was going to wait until I figured everything out and post a write up about how to do it. Seems way cheaper for people with fading black belts or people with tan belts to convert, rather than shell out the insane prices some people ask for some good belts.

The length from end to end once removed from the spool assembly is 126". So you would need to purchase 3.5 yards.

The '94s and up had the buckles on both sides match. Only the '93s had the weird buckles, NO idea why Mazda would do that.

You can also just get a set of the later belts. Can be hard to track down, but that's a bolt-in option.

the only reason I can think of why Mazda put different seat belt buckles for the passenger side is that there are no passenger side airbag on the 93. The big ugly buckle acts more like a locking mechanism for the lap portion. On the 94 and up, you have a passenger side air bag so the airbag should keep your passenger from flying out the windshield in a frontal accident.
