Sounds like the stock Mazdaspeed Protege BOV, but I don't know which aftermarket BOV sounds like that...

Sound like that many times is a too-heavy spring in a blowoff valve and compressor surge. Compressor surge is a Bad Thing for your turbo. A smooth "woosh" noise is the best.

I "believe" it's an early gen HKS BOV. A while back I wanted one of those too. However after a while that PSSSSHHHH, THBBBBBBTTT, whatever, sound gets old and annoying to me. Just IMO.

This is my consensus as well. It just sounds like he bought an aftermarket BOV and didn't know how to adjust it. Ideally you want the spring to be as soft as possible without vacuum loss. His turbo is hurtin.

Exaclty! Having set to where it will blow off as soon as pressure is above normal (such as when you let off the gas to shift) it will allow the turbos to stay spooled a little better, but most of all.... it won't build up a ton of pressure and slow your turbos drastically. there are other reasons too, but I am too stupid to remember.
