Thumbs up In search of the perfect Shift **** this is what I found.....NARDI

Since getting my car back on the road and installing a short shifter I wanted to replace my MOMO Cobra shift **** something better.

This is what I found............Nardi Torino. I'm debating on whether to get the short one or the longer one.

Has anyone ever seen one of these in an Rx-7 ?
Also, contemplating on getting a group purchase on these.

Is it threaded or does it have some cheezy "universal fit" adapter?

The last time I had an aluminum shift **** in the car it would heat up something fierce whenever I parked in the sun.

They almost look the same except for the lower extension that the one has.

Many shift ***** (Momo, and it looks like the Nardi pictured) use set screws to hold the **** in place. IMHO, that's WAY cheesy - the **** usually ends up buzzing and rattling, coming off in your hand, etc.

If that is *THE* shift ****, consider one of these -
http://store.miataparts.org/timomiad.html

It's basically a threaded insert for the **** so it's nice and secure.

My favorite **** is Greddy's new ***** - they have both a heavy metal one, and a light plastic one. Simple ball shape. The **** is threaded, so it screws right on and fits GREAT.

Next up are Razo shift *****. I've had a few, and most of the guys around here have as well. They come with a selection of nylon inserts. Each **** has different ways of securing the insert - some have a screw that holds it in, some the body of the **** screws apart for you to put it in. Anyhow, you put the **** on the shift lever, and screw it on - the metal threads on the lever cut threads into the nylon, making for a VERY tight and rattle-free fit.

talk to herblenny (Phil)

I think he has 1 or 2 lighted RX8 shift ***** left from the group buy.

they are awsome! you can't get them here in the states for less than $380 and even then, you have to wait for shipping!

Just found out that the shorter version is made for "custom" applications. It has a reverse lockout feature for mounting. The longer version is mounted with the allen screws which I'm not too hot about either. I do like the Greddy ball ****, but not too crazy about the greddy shift pattern sticker that goes with it.

i don't like aluminum *****. between the heat that comes from the tranny and the sunlight heating up the ****, you'll never be able to drive it w/o burning your hand.

LOL.........what a joke. I've owned an aluminum shift **** for 4 years and have never had a problem with burning myself. Heat coming from tranny def. not an issue.

I'd definitely look at some of the metal Razo *****, then.

http://www.cardomain.com/shoplist~b~RAZO~t~Shift+*****

Many of them either have simple shift patterns, or none at all. I think the Greddy logo in Greddy's ***** is pretty understated, though - it's not obnoxious.

Yeah, this was my first choice but wasn't sure about the greddy sticker. I know it screws on and is weighted, something that I'm looking for.

Onefast3gen could you post a pic of it installed when you get it in? Thank you. BTW.......I have a feeling this thread will be moving to the interior section soon.

I've gone through 2 MOMO ***** and I didn't like either of them. The screws would come loose, and after hard shifts, the **** would eventually come loose as well.

The **** I have now is a Razo aluminum R16A I think, and it's worked awesome so far. Hasn't come loose, and there's no rattling at all. Feels really solid, and looks good.

Here's a pic.

Dale, do you know if that miata part will work perfectly w/ our FDs? Because I LOVE my Momo shift ****, but I HATE how it rattles and twirls etc etc...

Thanks

The Miatas use the exact same shift lever dimension and thread as the FD - 10mm shaft, 1.5mm thread pitch, I believe. The '89-91 FC's also used this shaft. There's really only 3 different shift lever shaft sizes on Japanese cars, and most automakers have standardized across the line.

That's what I'm looking at as well. I've got a thread up in Interior/Exterior right now about the Wooden Mazdaspeed ****, I'm curious as to what it looks like installed. On one hand I think it would be cool, but on the other, i'm not sure the wood would fit in with the rest of the car.

Angry

I put a carbon fiber & chrome Momo on my Rex a few years ago. It's still there.......but since I live in Tampa, it gets a little too hot to handle....unless you have a spare hanky.

I'm looking for a replacement......may a cobra style all leather?
