Scraping/grinding sound from front DS wheel area

Gotta love these things.

Drove it from my friend's house back home, very slowly because of the snow. On the way home, it developed a weird scraping noise coming from the front driver's side wheel area. It continued making the sound later that night when I drove it again. I checked around the fender liner, and it was not contacting the wheel.

I'm thinking wheel bearing, but I'm not sure.

Went out and tested some things.

- It makes the scraping sound, regardless of steering angle.
- When slowing down, the front jumps around a bit (slight, but noticeable), and you can feel it tugging on the steering wheel
- The scraping sounds a lot like tire rubbing on fender liner, but there aren't any rub marks on the fender liner
- There's also a weird popping sound coming somewhere in the front
- When tugging on the wheels, there doesn't seem to be any noticeable play

Also, I jacked up the DS front of the car and spun the wheel. There didn't appear to be any noise or vibration.

Brake covers? As in, the outer edge of the dust shield, that bends towards the outside of the car?

Will check this shortly. Thank you.

The sound seems to be load related. As I go over bumps or apply the brakes, the sound sometimes stops for a split second.

Heading out to take another look at it. Hoping it's something simple like the dust shield.

Drove it in the snow: Ice/snow build-up (on the inside of the wheel, or in the fenderwell) contacting something?
