M2 was working on something to help with fuel slosh- some extra baffling to put in the tank to allow you to go down to almost an empty tank before you'd have problems. Don't know what ever happened to that. Maybe it's on the same time schedule as their new engine management system- it'll be ready two months from now- every time you call.

Most of the JDM tuners simply use a fuel resovoir in the trunk. A bit impractical for the daily driver, but it'll solve the problem of fuel slosh without having to drop the tank and open her up (not exactly a DIY job). I believe Chuck is working on just such an item (www.rotaryextreme.com) or just contact Takakaira and order up any of the JDM units from R-Magic, FEED, RE-Amemiya, etc...but best to support Chuck and his efforts, no? Install the resovoir, larger lines, and convert to a dual feed setup for the rails. You'd be good to go as far as fuel is concerned.

I seem to remember reading up on this project car (if it's the same one....black '93 FD) That they had over-heated while driving on the HW in california...had to get a state trooper to lend them some water.....

What makes me confused with the SCC crew is they did not try to rebuild the WHOLE engine with better or upgraded parts. Now if people know the engine is delicate then why would you not try to build a bullet-proof engine. That is what they are doing to the 300 ZX. They took two issues to explain how they have purchased new rods and camshafts or coated this or that. The same pain staking energy could have been done with the rotary engine. I ask why not?

Question Question for Shiv

When the engine blew due to fuel starvation, did the J&S knock sensor display show anything at all? I thought this was exactly the type of thing it was designed to prevent. I use it, so I'm concerned

I think anybody in love with the FD feels cheated by SCC's limited coverage of project RX-7. It is a shame that the engines went, but crap happens. I would count it as an example for all of us (or a reminder) that you have to be mindful of your engine when pushing it really hard.
Shiv, please make it up to us, we want to see that 7 back in SCC in place of all those junk cars they do writeups on! No offense to all you reading that race pontiac sunfires!

I totally agree with you man! Ever since they stopped covering Project RX7, SCC became just another import mag.Bestof the lot though, mind you. It just wasn't as significant to me.

Sidestick-

The J&S would probably have lit up but unless you were watching it (unlikely since the starvation occurs in corners) it wouldn't be much use until too late. It may help some, but if the A/F leans out a lot, retarding the timing isn't going to help anything. I don't know if the SCC car did this, but I connected the fuel pressure gauge to a warning buzzer. If the fuel pressure drops below 25psi it goes off and I know to let off the gas and don't get back on until the pressure is back up again. Same deal with water temp.

I remember the SCC car having a deal with the J&S connected to the power on their boost controller but I wouldn't think that would have helped either.
