Safe to drive with faulty oil level sensor?

My oil level light went on today for no apparent reason. First I thought the oil level was low but after inspection, it was full.

While I wait for a replacement, does the oil level sensor serve any other purpose other then letting you know when your oil is low? Does it control/interact with anything else?

Would it be safe to drive if I kept checking to see that the oil level is correct?

just check the oil every once in a while when you fill up.

safe as long as you make sure you check the oil regularly.
