Unhappy Sad tale of woe!!!

94 VR - stock - 49,000mi.
Went to run some errands yesterday and all was well. Stopped for gas and the car wouldn't crank so we jumped it. Still didn't want to crank but bumped the starter a few times and the car started. Engine knock!!!!! Idles fine, revs fine, good oil pressure, no overheat, but had it towed home as I was afraid to drive it.
Starts easy and runs fine, but it has this knock!!! Any ideas? This car has never been abused, 50+ owner, and has been carefully maintained. There has been no weirdness with this car at all such as smoke or bubbles in the radiator or strange noises. Help!!!

so you're hearing a weird noise from the engine? Is the engine itself knocking or maybe something is loose?

need more details

why do you think it had a hard time starting? your starter was going out?

Lately, I have had to hit the starter switch several times to get the car to start, as it just clicks. The engine knock is definetely a knock...if it were a piston engine, I would say a rod. It doesn't sound like a detonation knock. There were no sounds leading up to this, it just started. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

if you kill the rotor bearings, the rotors will wobble around

it will sound like "spun rod bearings"

you had just filled the car up - perhaps really bad gas?

If so, siphon the tank and fill with good stuff. Bad gas -> knocking -> blown engine, not worth the risk.
