I'm thinking of dropping a rebuilt Series7 block into my Series 6 FD ( and just useing all the S6 manifolds etc... ) .
Can I just do a straight swap? are there any major differences in the two engines that wont allow me to mix n match the parts ( apart from the ECU ) ?

Series 7 had a simpler vaccum line set up, and the ECU was 16 bit not 8 bit like the Series 6, if your going to do the swap you have to do the entire thing, wiring harness included. That noted, your only going to get an extra 10 horse out of the Series 7 over the Series 6.

 

I'm going to be running a single turbo setup so I can forget about all the seq vacume lines, the block is the only thing changing

In the later models some very minor gasket changes internally.

 

so just changing the blocks shouldnt affect anything and no need to change ECU and loom over to S7

 

Correct.
Everything will bolt up 100%, porting etc remains the same.
Of interest brand new mazda crate engines from Japan are all late model S8 blocks. (I purchased one recently to replace my very dead S7 engine (Aus spec, which is the same as the s6!!) and had it stripped and a bit of work done..no differences effectively)
Main changes are around the sealing of the timing cover internally. Only one kit exists for the gaskets however for all series!
