S-afc V2

i was wondering if anyone with similar mods as mine and the apex-i S-AFC v2 would want to share their tuning numbers and maybe save me a few hundred dollars of dyno time just for an AFC...i know most of you guys are partial to the power FC but i'm on a budget here so any help with the S-AFC would be greatly appreciated.

Mods:
Intake, 3" downpipe and mid pipe, HKS SSQV(not really a mod i know), and the S-AFC

The S-AFC is not adequate for the FD. It also will not allow you to raise boost levels above the stock 10 psi, as the stock ecu will still fuel cut. If you wanted to save some money and avoid tuning, you should have bought a used Pettit ecu that has been programmed for your mods. They are usually $400-450 in the classifieds.

i got the S-AFC for $150 shipped and it's brand new I couldn't pass it up...I am however looking for a AVC-R to go with it, that should take care of the fuel cut problem correct?

As far as the AFC goes: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=250137

About the AVC-R: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=250822
I'll ship it to CONUS for $360.

No, it won't. The AVC-R is just a boost controller, so you can maintain the stock boost level of 10 psi with your mods. That makes the S-AFC worthless, as the stock ecu can handle several mods at 10 psi. Additionally, the AVC-R does not do a very good job controlling the twins in sequential mode.

Your money would be much better spent buying a Pettit ecu and a used Profec B boost controller (sell the S-AFC).

i really don't want to get rid of the s-afc, unless it's absolutely necessary of course. So by tricking the map on the stock ECU into thinking there's less boost then there actually is couldn't I then turn the boost up on the twins and not need an aftermarket ECU? I'm actually planning on doing the nonsequential conversion so the avc-r would control them in nonseq. fine, but i'm waiting on my center channel speaker gauge pod so I can just devote an entire day to the 7.

You could do a home depot boost controller to keep boost and spikes under control just be careful

That's a very bad idea. I don't know why you are so set on spending more money than you need to and running the car unsafely.

A used Pettit ecu is about $400. You might not even need a boost controller if you aren't spiking and don't run over 12 psi or so. If you do, you can use a manual controller (very cheap) or a used Profec or similar (<$250). Done.

This is not a car to try to cheap out on. Pay to play or pay a lot more later (or sooner).

im not looking to be cheap it just happened i got a great deal on the AFC. I just know i'll never be able to sell this thing so I want to use it otherwise I'm screwed out of the money I spent. I'm here to learn I'm not here trying to argue with you, you just have to see my side, I make dick an hour and have a car and tool payment etc... so selling this AFC (which won't happen) and getting that other ECU which I can't even find on Ebay just seems like a far off way to go. I just want to use the AFC because A) it's cheaper B) I already have it here and don't have to hunt it down for $400 or more somewhere else

If you had money to afford the mods, then you should have money to afford a modified ecu. If you can't afford $400 for an ecu, how are you going to afford to rebuild the engine when you blow it? I'm telling you that the S-AFC will not do what you want it to do. Just because you bought it, doesn't mean that you should use it. Suck it up and sell it. (I'm kind of curious how you can "get such a good deal on it" but not be able to sell it...) Either you get a new ecu or you take some of the mods back off. Or you suffer the consequences. It's really that simple. I'm not being a dick, I'm just telling you how it is.

BTW, look in the classifieds section of the forum. There's ecus for sale there all of the time.

I recommend selling the stupid-afc to an fc owner. 2nd gen guys don't have a lot of options, and for their needs, it works great (supposedly). Me & Batmobile both used to have the s-afc, and we both agree that it's worthless for our cars...

*I dyno'd with it, and it made my car sub 9:1 a/f Leaning it out did not work. You are better off with the stock ecu @ 10 #'s. You'll see what I mean if you keep it

so even with the AFC i can't turn up the boost to lets say 15 PSI and run larger injectors which would make the AFC neccessary to have? It's going to be a huge hassle to try and sell this AFC and have close to how much I'm going to need for the pettit ECU. So if there's a way I can use this AFC i want to. Im not trying to be stubborn here and I realize the AFC is a huge freakin hassle now. Also the downpipe/midpipe, intake, and charge lines (which i failed to mention) were free because I have a pipe bender, the only things I paid for were the SSQV and Suck *** Fuel Converter

I have alot of FD3S RX7 magazines and one of them had an article regaring on the "S-AFC v2".

"Ifyou can not afford to buy a ECU or if you only have intake, stock mount ic,downpipe, exhaust moded then the S-AFC v2 will work great. If you get high flow turbo, or single turbo (+fmic) then, we recomend you to get an ECU such as HKS F-CON Vpro or Power FC."

(traslated from RE Magazine 2003 Vol.05)

e'hrm'.....*cough cough*

by the way, here is a little bit of information for those of poeple who boosts up their stock twins.

With stock twins you can only boost up to 1.0cm^2kg.
Anything higher, the shaft,seal,blades..etc wont hold.
(Info from Knight Sport)

YOU CANNOT BOOST OVER 10 PSI WITH THE S-AFC! Damnit, I feel like a ******* broken record here.

You know what, put on the midpipe and S-AFC. Have fun. I give you a week before you are on here bitching about your blown motor, especially in this cold weather.

Yes you can boost little bit higher than the stock boost. (0.8cm^2kg) By adding the intake, exhaust and such may raise the boost up to 1.0cm^2kg (strictly speaking of the primary turbo boost) or can be higher due to the boost creep. In-order to control that, you will need a boost control. Adequet boost is aproxmatly 0.9cm^2kg with s-afc v2.

s-afc v2 can accomidate +50%/-50% of fuel to the amont of the air. And this is just enough to keep the fuel/air ratio of 0.9cm^2kg.

rynberg, im just getting this from my japanese rx7 magazines. =) If you disagree, thats fine. I'm just trying to give a lilbit of info regarding on s-afc v2.

you could go with a fcd(fuel cut defender) with the afc, but still this is not an ideal setup. i would put the afc on ebay and maybe get 200 out of it( it does work great on other cars-dsm's etc), then suck it up and go with a pettit unlimited ecu.

Stay away from the AFC. I have one sitting in my garage and it will be going for sale soon. Simply put, your computer will read the changes you have altered to your MAP sensor and either hit fuel cut (if you go the + way), or increase the timing & run leaner (if you go the - way)
