Rx8 gears fit in fd rear?

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this and if its a direct fit? I was told the rx8s have a higher gear ratio which could benefit the FD in the 1/8th mile....?

They fit. What rpm are you passing through the traps at?

Dale Clark did a great writeup on the RX8 gearset in the FD.

Dale, I see that you mentioned this already, but it was a great writeup so I thought I'd
put a plug in for the work you did.

Regards

That is fast, don't know if the lower gears will help. If you lower the rear gears (4.10 vs 4.44) you might have to shift right at the traps if you go any faster.

True. Do you know if all rx8s came with 4.44s?

I'd LOVE a set of 4.44 or 4.77 rear gears in my automatic FD...
Thats one of my next to-do things, if I can find some time.

With stock tires 3rd will top out at (8000 RPM):

4.44: 95.89
4.77: 89.25
(edited post, I had typed in the wrong #s)

I have 4.77 in my car, with a Carbonetics Limited Slip.

4.77 with a reasonable sized turbos makes for very little turbo lag at low speeds (autox car)

I just cracked open a `04 RX8 MT rear end and it had a 4.0 in it. I'm assuming that I should have bought an auto rear for the 4.44

Just in case you guys are wondering, I counted it a few times with a state depression each time.

that doesn't sound right at all. I thought that all the S1 rx8s came with a 4.44 in the MT. and the S2's came with a 4.77?

OK, so I blame myself for taking the word of a mechanic. He did count it several times. After taking a look at the rear end again this morning, I pulled out the rx8 box and took a recount. IT IS 4.44!!! So happy now

After going home last night a bit disappointed, I pulled up all the info I could to see that a 4.00 was never made. I knew the ring gear was 40 so it would make sense that the pinion gear is 9.

Gotta love this forum for all the info it provides.

Now to order some diff bearings... Small island = no parts for rx7 on island. ugh

You may not have a manual trans diff. Also, foreign RX-8's may have had different gearing options.

Everything checked out fine. It's definitely a 4.44 Ring & Pinion. Came out of a USDM RX8 courtesy of Ebay
