Here is my S2 RX-8 Fan Motor repinned to using the FD Connector.
And here is what I'll be using, modified the Greddy Fan Extensions harness to accept the Stock S2 RX-8 Fan motors, the connectors are weather sealed which is a bonus and this will "future proof" the car if I ever need to replace the motors again.
just on time man...
Just received my brand new s2 rx8 fan motors and fan blades from Ray. I was going to solder , but this is way better.
Thanks a bunch
Well, I did this by soldering the old fd fans plugs to the new rx8 s2 fans and matched colors and it works.
The rx8 fans are way quieter, and lighter, which I like like it.
by the way,.
Here's a video of the CFM comparison, based on his results, it was almost double compared to the FD fans. Another factor could be his fans were old and tired.
that video is excellent. I have the fan blades on my car but not the motors, going to have to get the motors now .
Also he had a tough time pulling the fan blades off the motors. Slow prying on opposite sides of the blades is the easiest way to remove them. A little PB Blaster helps too.

If one is putting the fans and motors in, they would be able to skip the step of separating them no?
i hate to mention this, because its probably not that simple, but the 1989-1999 Nissan Maxima's are the other car with this style of fan system, and it looks like the Rx8 uses the same connectors.
the motors look similar too, but they are different left and right, and the FD isn't
They show as available in mazdapartsfactor, oem, and inexpensive. Mazdatrix also has them in their page. I didn't know this before, I paid about $120 used for the assembly with shroud, I could've gotten just the motors and blades new for nearly that.
Note: I didn't call to check if there is stock available.
I'm assuming you must be wanting to keep the OE look then? Because I don't even want to use RX8 fan motors on my RX8, lol.
The FAL420 dual fan & shroud assy. is a straight swap on an RX8 and about double the flow on high speed operation.
.
just curious how we're drawing flow comparisons in that case, is these some work here from the rx8 community?
basically, the stock rx7 system is notoriously sufficient and hardy and the rx8 s2 fans and motors bolt right in and appear to be an upgrade (lower current, higher flow, lighter fan motors)
I gotta admit, I have this upgrade and I'm still slightly skeptical
I never recommend aftermarket fans on an FD tho, the stock system is too effective to warrant messing around for the most part

its more like space, depending on the setup there isn't room for anything else. plus the S2 Rx8 fan blades (with N3G1-15-150 motors) is the factory setup for 99+

I'm curious about this as well. From my FC experience, aftermarket electric fans are typically garbage - super loud, work for a few months then act up, always something going on with them. FC guys try and find a good electric fan to get rid of the clutch fan, but the FC's clutch fan moves a TON of air.
As stated, this is pretty much the same as the 99 fans. I have an actual set of 99 RX-7 fans in my attic that need to go on the car one of these days .
IMHO this is a solid way to go, it could be sketchy with aftermarket fan motors instead of OEM, but besides that it's solid.
In my case, its not about the oem "look".I dont even see the fans neither care to see them. IT is just simple swaping fans using same relays and shroud and forget about it. That being said, those fans sure push more air, more amps draw?
Good info though.
The s2 rx8 fans apparently draw less current than the FD motors, but I've never put them on a bench and tested that. Just commonly held belief AFAIK, or maybe the specs are listed out somewhere.
don’t want to detract from the thread too much, but have you checked the Amp draw on the RX8 fans? Because the RX8 has a 40A fused cooling fan wiring system from the factory. The FAL420 dual 12” shrouded fan set I mentioned earlier is rated 2500 CFM with a 22A draw and is better flowing than the RX8 fans. There’s also the FAL490 set that also fits the RX8 thats flows 3000 CFM @ 29A rated draw. The fans are slightly taller than the 420 set, but the rest of the dimensions are the same. I’m not sure how the RX8 radiator dimensionally compares to the FD either and there might also be other consideration like the intercooler and such that might interfere. I’m not really sure.

It has been load-tested by Michael Gagne (Instrument Cluster repair guy), they draw less amps than the FD motors.
