hey ppl
i would like to ask what are the main differences in parts in a series 7 rx7 (2000) RS and RB
one produces 255 and the other one 280 ...
i am trying to make a type Rb car into some sort of RS

Mechanichaly, Looking like an RS or both?
Try this http://www.j-garage.com/mazda/rx-7/2000-1.htm
it has the specs (all??) of the various 2000+ types .
As for the power i think the main difference is the boost level. So changing the RB ECU with an RS one you should get ~280. Unless there are other differences.

There were a number of changes made that add up to the power difference.
For a good rundown of what was done go here:

The changes were for all the types in 99. But if his RB is 96-98 then JConn is right. A lot of changes must be made
From the same page FDconn posted: http://www.rx7.net.nz/fd-jp-models.html
By the way the only RB's that had 255 were automatics. If this is the case i think it's more difficult to get 280 at the wheels.

slapping in an ecu wouldn't work (in any case, the wiring is different on the 280ps cars)
between a 96-98 RB and a later RS the core differences, in terms of power, are:
* different (abraidable) seals on the turbos
* more boost
* higher flowing exhaust (hollowed out downpipe and better flowing cat-back)
* slightly revised intake
* ecu tune to suit - and the power delivery is noticeably different
the 280ps cars are in reality, closer to the low 300ps area (on paper, all japanese sports cars were supposed to be limited to 280ps).
There are a lot of other differences that make the 280ps cars far different to pre-98 FDs - suspension is probably the biggest change. RS will also have 4.3 diff and bigger brakes.
series 7 (which is australian terminology, not japanese) = 96-98.
