Question RX7 Pricing

I know the Mazda RX-8 is coming out sometime in spring 2003 and I was wondering if anyone knew if that'd drop the price on the 3G rx7's?

I've seen 3rd gens for 8-14K and really really would like to get one, but i am only 17 and cant afford 14K for a car. So if anyone knows if the rx8 coming out will affect the rx7 price let me know

I don't see why. The RX-8 isn't a sucessor to the 3rd Gen RX-7. If you have to wait for a price drop to afford a 3rd gen, I would recommend putting off such a purchase. Never know how soon something could go and how much it would cost.

RX-7 price

blazeski- Read the posts on this forum for about 3-4 months before you make your move to buy. Your purchase price is just the start of your expense. The RX-7 is a high performance car that *must* be maintained properly to run well. Unless you find one that was driven by the proverbial little old grandmother only to go to church on Sundays, you will be buying a ten year old car that will need to be fixed up to get it running well. The ones that don't need any work done to them will not be on the market- why would you sell a car like this if it was running well? So, you will get one that needs something repaired. Nearly all the parts are expensive and hardly any mechanics know how to work on the RX-7, including the Mazda dealer mechanics (who are usually the worst place to take a RX-7). I think you really need to know what you are getting in to. You need to be able to do a lot of the work on the car yourself. I have done most of the work on my cars, including complete engine rebuilds on at least seven cars, for the past 40 years that I have been driving. I have had RX-7's since 1985, three bought new, one used and then the 3rd gen that I bought used and still have. I paid $15K for it with 50,000 miles on the odometer. I expected it would need some repairs, so I kept back about $5K of my budget for buying the car. Good thing, cause it needed a new engine- $4500. I have spent over $40K in repairs and modifications in the two years I have had it. I love the car- it is dependable-now- since I have replaced all the things that needed to be replaced and upgraded to make it more durable. This is my expensive hobby and I can afford to spend $$ on the car now. Not sure I could have afforded it when I was 17. Also, your insurance as a young driver will be high. Real high. Find out from your insurance agent how much so you will not be surprised. You probably will end up with a 3rd gen, since the decision to buy a car like this is an emotional decision, not a rational one, so I hope you have good luck with it. The people on this forum will help with many of your technical questions and also be there with a shoulder to cry on when your car is driving you nuts.
