rx7 newb here.
hey guys, i got a 93 rx7 R1 twin turb like 2 months ago, i really dont know that much about cars, kinda just got into them hehe, but anyways, my rx7 is completely stock except for the rims. I bought 18" konig imagines the other day for my first mod. I just wanna know what you guys think my second mod should be? some of my friends are saying boost controller, but i dunno. i have about a thousand dollars to spend, do you think i should save for something more expensive or what? heres i pic of my rx7 and my mom's rx8

If all you have is 1 grand, I would go for the intake and radiator, then some intake piping. I don't think man ypeople can fight those for their first mods, and it will cost you on or a little over 1000.

just curious, you sure it's an R1? in the pic, it doesn't have the lip (of course it could be taken off or added on), but you said you didn't know that much. just wondering if you checked before buying.

I would say do things such as intake, down pipe, cat back system, boost gauge, upgraded radator, aluminum ast, ect. Doing those things should get you off to a good start. I really wouldn't start off with a boost controler just yet.

Do reliability first, you can cash in later by getting this stuff out of the way now rather then later. My cheap original radiator did manage to crack on me so I would say get rid of the original first ( I have a Koyo, big reasonable price, easy fit to stock setup), along with the AST - get the billet one, awesome reliability upgrade. Second I would get rid of the pre-cat. Will give you some HP and get that heat off the rear turbo when you shut down or are not moving (friggen thing is a bomb waiting to eat your car in flams anyhow). From there you can do some exhaust work or intake, both of which provide some good Hp. Once you get both done, get rid of the stock computer or you will hoze out your engine with too much boost and not enough fuel (lean runnen). At some point, get some gauges on a pillar pod, boost and A/F Ratio are the most popular and most functional.
How to buy on a budget?? Hunt around some clubs and rotary shops looken for spare parts. There is never a shortage of people going single, good source of DP's, intakes, upgraded SMIC's, computers, and a welth of other goodies!!

alright thanks guys, ill prolly go with the radiator cause you guys sound like you know what your talking about to answer the questions, im 18 years old, and the original front lip was all scratch up so i got that one to replace it.

Get a boost gauge also. Very inexpensive insurance.
Kind of off topic, but look at how sleek and smooth the 7 looks compared to the RX8. The RX8 isn't even in the same class; the 7 is a beautiful car!

if you only have $1000 to spend, work on reliability; replace your Silicon Vacuum Hoses they will cause some of your first problems. Then, boost / water temp gauges followed by exhaust, air intake, computer, intercooler, upgraded radiator, AST, down pipe, cat back system and so on......

Fine looking ride young man. My only concern is that if this is your first car you need to take it easy for a while until you really know how this beast handles.
Due to the thumping power these cars generate combined with the rear wheel drive and light weight, it's pretty easy to throw the back end out. This is especially true in the wet, when the turbos can kick in suddenly and before you know it you're facing the wrong way.
As some guys have already suggested, spend your dollars on engine prolonging mods - downpipe, aluminium AST etc.
