RX-7 model info

Hey there
here comes the n00b-question - just to set it right.

I've been a fan of the rx-7 since... yeah since a long time ago, and haven't really been aware of this site until now. Been hanging around and reading alot on supraforums, but I've got to learn more about this lovely car.

I live in Denmark, and the RX-7 is very rare here, so there's not much 'public' info on the car. a guy on SF called a 3rd gen RX-7 for FD and I was like... wtf

searced a bit and found this.

Mazda : SA22C = RX-7 SA/FB
FC3S = RX-7 FC Coupe
FC3C = RX-7 FC Cabrio
FD3S = RX-7 FD

Could anyone give an explanation to the modelnumbers and get this out of my head

thanks

I hate to find what I'm lookin' for right after I post. someof it at least.

.....
FC3S - Another term for second generation RX-7 (1986 - 1991)
FD3S - Another term for third generation RX-7 (1993 - now)

the last one : SA22C = RX-7 SA/FB

Anyone?

Japanese love codes for various things - that's where they all came from. The 3rd generation RX-7's have the chassis code "FD3S" in Japan, and the engine code "13B-REW". ALL Japanese cars have chassis codes - Supra is JZA80, for example.

The SA22C/FB3S is the 1st generation RX-7, made from '79 to '85. Typically the "SA" is the '79-82, I believe.
