RX-7 efini poor running and VERY hot at rest
Well the RX-7 that I bought at auction last night is looking like it's going to be a challenge so any help/advice would be appreciated.
It was only imported from Japan to the UK on 01/06/07 so hopefully there won't be too many issues to resolve, on driving it out of the auction compound today it sounded like it was backfiring a bit from the exhaust however on the drive home on the motorway it wasn't very responsive when the accelerator was pressed, the temperature gauge stayed in the middle all the way home, around 60 miles, but when I got onto our drive and stopped the gauge shot up into the red, on lifting the bonnet I noticed that the plastic water reservoir cap was off and the long plastic dipstick appears to show that there is way too much water in it.
Any ideas anyone, and does anyone know of a reputable specialist in the north of England that I could trailer it to so they could have a look?
Thanks in advance

I would suggest posting in the European section at the bottom to try to find a person who can help you. If the car has a free-flowing exhaust, it will usually gurgle and backfire a bit...that's normal I think. Everything else might raise some concern, but I have no idea personally.

The reservoir cap being loose is no matter at all. It is an open tank anyway, that will splash over if there is too much coolant in there.
I hope you were prepared for the possibility of needing an engine right away, because this is not a good sign. Hopefully it's something minor, but anytime the temp gauge goes above middle something is not right. I agree to get it to a rotary specialist before you drive it anymore - good luck on your search for that.

I actually had this problem. I was driving the car around one day, it was fine 100% working. Then pulled into my driveway, and then in about 30 seconds, i was hitting the H on the Temp gauge, and coolant was boiling and overflowing.
PROBLEM:
it was my rad fans, one motor seized up, and then the heat from the two not working made the other fan melt of the motor housing, so i had no fans to cool the coolant when the car was at a standstill. Adam in Calgary where i bought the car, replaced the fans with no fuss. So check the Fans!!
hope this helps
