Runs better when low on gas

I know it’s weird and I shouldn’t run the car under 1/4 tank but when I have to I’ve noticed it runs extremely smooth. Is this a pump/tank problem. I believe there’s a sock around the fuel pump that you can clean. Correct me if I’m wrong. But can anyone weigh in

How long since you replaced the O2 sensor? Replacing mine made the car run smoother at low throttle or idle. I.e., running a bit leaner smooths out the low-throttle operation. So you may be feeling the engine running leaner, which may indicate some fuel starvation. Too much of that, and you could run lean enough to cause detonation which can blow out rotor tip seals.

I notice my car is *faster* on a low tank of gas due the lack of weight

Stock fuel pump? Mods on the car?
