I have no idea what seal your friend is talking about, and I doubt he does either. If there is an exhaust or fuel leak the car will smell of gas doesn't necessarily mean you're running excessively rich. The backfiring is quite typical of rotaries. Enjoy it

If you still think it is running rich you will have to tell us some more about what friggin' car you bought. This post should have been made in the newb section, AFTER reading the stickies.

Ask around if anyone here on the forums thats close to you, or anyone of your friends has a wideband lambdasensor. put it 5 cm into the exhaust tip and read your AFs to see if you are THAT rich.

alittle backfire is typical rotary style, get used to flames

My car has strong gas odor that I couldn't track down and none of the lines were leaking so I just said screw it and left it alone. Passed smog fine and 8,000miles afterward it's still running fine. So don't sweat it unless you got smoke coming out from your exhaust or fuel leaking from under the car.

And you gotta love that backfire especially when people jump cause they think something exploded or is shooting a gun...

Need a lot more info on the car ie year, mods, psi its running, ect. Also FDs are a car that you need to either know/learn how to fix/work on yourself or have the money to pay someone to do it for you. Even if you do the work yourself they are still not cheap cars to own.

If your not very good with cars I'd suggest finding a shop that knows what their doing with a rotary and have them sort it out for you. If you really want to learn start going through the faq and reading the stuff in their and also download the FSM for your car and start going through that. Then if your still stumped about something come here and ask.

Asking about problem with your car with no useful info about your car being posted will most times lead to poor, angry, or no replies at all.
