Wow. Cool. I can't believe (well I guess I can....I GUESS..:P) that this post was ignored.

I always thought, no matter how "Good" the fitment is, that Sleek/Non-Popup Lights on an FD looks unnatural. It's mainly because the lights look out of place with the angle the sleek light kit comes at. Even if you don't know what an rx7 is, you know it's not natural and there should be pop-ups there..maybe it's just me.

JJ, could you PM me with a price and more info on this kit? Are you marketing/selling the whole lense with a HID insert? The pop-ups will still come up as normal? Etc etc. thanks

It was ignored because it has nothing to do with Rotary Extreme lights. While the lights look interesting, I'm done with the stock pop ups. I've already had HID's in the stock pop ups (not projectors however) and want something different. Be it sleepy lights or sleek my involvement is done with the stockers and I'm leaning towards the sleek lights for the light output and simplicity.

I wasnt happy with any covers that were out so I made my own headlights using a set of the original re-amemiya pods to get a mold from so if I wanted to go back to the regular look I could. The one huge problem with the lexan covers whether its re-amemiya or rotary extreme is that they fog HORRIBLE with any moisture. Thats why I dont have any covers anymore
This picture was before I finished mounting them flush, they still needed some work.

Sorry to question off topic...If one were to custom mount/install a projector HID from another car (LT1-7 is doing this with TT projectors with his C-West kit), would the lenses melt. I have heard stories of the Amemiya lenses warping. I dont know if this is true or not.

I think if you do end up using RE Amemiya's covers, use the clear ones unless your car is black. I have the tinted lenses on my vintage red FD and the tint makes the painted buckets look somewhat silly.

They leave a significant amount of the hardware and light assemblies exposed and look generally tacky in my opinion.
I bought the RXtreme HID version and Jim's descriptions fits perfectly...I sent them back to RX7Store...pure from a "fit and finish" standpoint.

Fair enough. Still think the Rx7 looks more natural leaving it pop-up as the curves/nose give way to, and as Mazda intended.. :P

I sure Mazda didn't intend for an air filter to be under the lights or the car to make 500 hp either. Just for you I'm going to have two covers, one clear and one completely painted to look like the stock lights during the day.

The lights I'm building would be very simple to drop in; if you can take out your stock lights and put them back in, you can install the lights I'm building. I will say, however, that the RE sleeks are the best looking sleek lights I've seen by far, and I'm tempted to buy a set for myself in the future to see if I could mount projectors cleanly inside.

I like the look of the sleek lights, not to mention a few lbs. weight savings and better lighting, but my car is nothing like mazda intended

It would be nice if someone made a better lense and something to cover the inside brackets and bolts.

**** man, get with the times, even Chevy has accepted the fact that pop-up lights make a car look OLD. And as far as the angle... ??? what about 3000GT's/Stealths? Damn near the same angle.

Don't fear change, embrace it. Typically the old design is inferior.

I Painted My outlines red to match the body color and left the fiberglass black, or rather painted it such as it comes in gray....
Chuck has been real helpfull in any suggestions as to further stabelizing the light housing in my oppinion, and has been great in support as well....

I ended up getting some touch up paint and painting the shiny bolts etc... that were left after the install black, and now you can't tell weather it's stock or aftermarket without knowing what an FD looks like stock...

Eventually I will get new lenses as the paint I used was Hobby Paint and it faded fast...

http://member.newsguy.com/~dncrosby/RX-7/HID_Kit.htm for pictures

Closeup of before I put the lenses on

Lenscover on but bolts are not yet painted...

It wouldn't matter to me if it had a flux capacitor, ran on garbage and went back into time it's still ugly as $hit.

Anybody have any experiences with tempered glass production?
Would it be desirable to move away from the plexiglass lenses to a glass lenses if they could be produced at a reasonable rate?
