Reverse light bulb

Sorry for the noob question, but does the reverse light take 1156 or 1157 bulbs? I see both types listed so I'm confused. Thanks in advance.

why not just pull the bulb out and take a look at it. it'll probably have the bulb type printed on it

I could, but my car is in the shop right now and I was going to pick up some bulbs before I get it back.
