Reverse Gear!? Help

1994 FD3 R2. . . Short Shifter. . . 70k oringal miles.

I can't shift into reverse? Low Tranny Fluid? The problem just happened, so I don't know what the issue is. <sigh> It's to dark to actually look at it. Anyone have this problem before, or any suggestions?

Do your 5th gear shifts grind sometimes?

5th and reverse are in the same part of the tranny. It's possible that a piece of broken 5th synchro has jammed reverse gears.

Also, don't forget to shift to neutral, clutch out, clutch in, and try reverse again.

I have a similiar problem after a bit of driving. Especially through slow moving traffic. Shifting becomes a little rough and sometimes I have to play with the gears to shift into reverse (Shift into 1 or 2 then to reverse). The 5th gear syncro was replaced by Mazdee's about a month ago. I forgot to mention it to Dave because the engine had bigger problems which he fixed and its not really that big of a deal but i'll definetely have him look at it next time. So, SaTxRx-7 try shifting it into other gears and into reverse and see if it works, solve the problem at least temporarily.

Anyone know what the problem could be or is my problem different?

I tried shifting to different gears and it didn't work, but thanks for the tip.

Ya the 5th gear syncro is going out, which was a known, before I bought the car. He said he would give me a 95 tranny with 8k miles on it. Since he didn't think it was right to purchase a car with that problem.

Thanks for the help. How much is the labor charge for dropping a tranny to fix the 5th and reverse gear? I read somewhere the actual replacement pieces for the gears is like 100$, the major charge is the labor.

As far as transmissions go though, any shop can do it right ? It doesn't have to be rotary specific?

Ya, that's what I plan on doing.

I'll probably have the 94 tranny rebuilt, though for a backup. Then I'll sell off my 93 tranny and use the profits to recoup from the rebuild, and labor charges .
