restored headlight housings, good 30min project

here's a good 30min project for those of you who are bored today

i restored my headlight housings!

i took them off (4 screws, easily accessible)

i sanded them for 400grit sandpaper, and then 600grit, heated them with a heat gun so the paint would stick, sprayed with high temp black

quickly ran over them with a heat gun, and paint dried quickly

i took the screws and stabbed them into a cardboard box, painted them as well

before/after pics off/on the car below

i know, researching that right now, i think i can just disassemble them, and put them in the washing machine

if that doesn't work, i'll boil them in water

What would be the durability of this mod.

It looks great but will the paint stay adherent to the plastic part for long?

Nice...very nice. The possibilites of this application are boundless. I would have probably prepped them the way you did and had them proffesionally painted the same color as my car. Just food for thought.

But then it wouldn't have been a nice, quick, and cheap job.

Talking

I agree. I was only giving suggestions. No need to draw the battle sword. Hence "Food for thought."

Some might actually like the idea of someone "else" professionaly painting their housings the exact same color of their car. It's easy since you aren't doing the job. Plus, it would probably last longer too. Again, just a suggestion. There's absolutely nothing wrong with your method. That's what the forum is about, ideas, suggestions and discussions.

And I thought mine looked good when I took them off and used paint stripper to get all the red over sprayed paint off (crappy paint job along it's life).

Nice job.
