Usually the life is what jesse said about 50,000-70,000.. I would say closer to 50,000 though, In my opinion doesnt matter how you drive, but if you have a good tune and take care of it you can drag every weekend and do curcuit and it will last a while.. Life is different on them all, as to the effect I said above overhaul and all that..
The reputation is its a smooth looking car. FAST always know as a different engine (rotary). Usually race in different races and rounds but other then that I think is cool actuall HOT in the summer haha

One of the "rotary gods" on a norwegian car forum claims that the engine in his RX7 FD didn't die before it had passed 160 000km... And then it was his own fault. He didn't explain further what went wrong though.. if it was his apex seals or the rotor housing....
Most of the engine that fail around 50-60k in Japan I tend to find dies of water seal failure before apex seal failure. Some of the big name shops in Japan may have good knowledge but does not always mean they take the care and attention that is needed on customers cars. I have seen some major **** ups from big tuning shops in Japan on cars & have seen some fantastic work from smaller tuning shops who never get mentioned in comparison to the more well known tuners.
I think we can say for sure that if there we're better rotary mechanics/tuners then there would be far less reliability issues discussed on the forums. I mean the engines are delicate enough as it without the aid of garages that don't take time care & attention while working on these cars.

blah blah blah, its the same all over the planet, unless you just have no experience in your area.
Serious question I asked my builder since I dont have the time. I said "Someya hook me up man, and I said go pretty good on the ports but not too crazy I want to have some life it in still, but I said race clearance it and port the blah blah blah"
His answer "Jason you know the strongest engine would be a stock engine"
Ok I hope that makes since. The bigger you port the shorter the life, the bigger boost the shorter and so on......
I changed 3 engines in my MR2 in a 2 year period, because I had it all hooked up, race cars if you do in fact make yours one, dont last long. Lot of shops do 1 drag meet, one curcuit race etc...... BLAH BLAH...
I think that japanese tuners though, MOST of the bigger names actually do a pretty good job. Im sure they do in the states. If you say overhaul it, but use all the old parts you can and blah blah blah to keep the price down, then guess what you get what you ask for. I think most shops wont fight with you over what or how you should spend your cash...
ALL tuners I have talked to HERE highly recommend changing all overhaul parts ie seals, rotors housing etc... if your over 20,000 km or overheated it or messed it up bad in another way meaning anything besides some weak springs hehe...
**THIS IS A LITTLE BIT OF A VENT, SO I HOPE IT MAKES SENSE**
