Replacing rear main seal

Like the title sayz.... I am working on my 13bRE cosmo motor and while I had the flywheel off I was going to go ahead and change the rear main seal. Ordered a new one from Mazdatrix. Is this just as simple as poping the old one out and pushing the new one in, or is there any tips or tricks I should know before messing anything up? Someone had mentioned to me about putting a Black RTV silicone around the outter edge before placing it back in there.
Any tipz would be great!

thanx

There's an o-ring you will want to replace as well. RTV is also used by some to seal the flywheel ID to the eccentric shaft.

Replacing the rear o-ring would require removing the rear stationary gear, I would advise against this unless you know what you are doing. The rear oil seal is the same as any other motor just remove the old one and replace. There is no need to put RTV around the outer edge if you install it correctly and don’t damage the mating surface. There is a key on the eccentric shaft used to align the flywheel/counter weight so keep track of it when you remove the flywheel. Curved side is the eccentric shaft side and make sure you install it square to the shaft. If the flywheel/counter weight does not slide on easy, don’t force it. Just make an adjustment to the key and it should slip right on.

Hope this helps,
Dan
