replacing enigne mounts how to

I searched the forum but couldn't find a how to. I want to change both engine mounts on my car.

What's the best and fastest way to do it without unbolting all ancillaries?

I would loosen the two bottom nuts that hold the mounts on the cross member and lift the engine a little bit. Then unscrew the mounting arms from the engine and put in the new arms.

I would appreciate any advise.

Here's how I would do it -

- Remove the intercooler pipes and maybe the intake pipes. Those are the only pipes that could get bound up when lifting the engine.

- Raise the front of the car and support safely on jackstands.

- Remove the nuts at the bottom side of the engine mount to the subframe.

- Use an engine hoist and chain - hook up to the engine, and carefully lift up a bit.I would use both front and rear engine hooks. If you keep the chain relatively short, you can do this without having to remove the hood.

- If you are removing the arms that bolt to the motor with 3 bolts, you may want to make a tool for the job. I got a cheap 17mm (I think the bolts are 17mm, they could be 19mm, check first) and I ground it down to make it about half the regular height. This let me get the socket and ratchet in there to remove the bolts. You may need to come up a bit on the hoist, just go up only as much as you need.

- Clean up the bolts if there's any RTV stuck to them. Install new mounts, you may have to do some fiddling and wiggling. A pry bar can help here to get things lined up. It may also help to have a friend working the hoist up and down as you get everything lined up.

- Tighten everything up, reinstall IC pipes, done.

The hardest part is getting the new mount in place, and some of that can depend on if you have stock mounts or aftermarket mounts. I did an early set of Full Function Engineering mounts once that were a CHORE to get lined up. Since then they have redesigned them to make them easier to install.

If you dont have an engine hoist you can use a bottle jack under the transmission too, there's a flat spot there towards the front, use a block of wood.
