Replacing engine mounts
Replacing engine mounts
What is the best way to remove the engine mounts with out removing the engine from the car?
I was thinking about jacking the car up and then putting it on jack stands, then lifting the engine off the mounts from the transmission?
If you have a better suggestion I am up for hearing it.

Are you removing just the pucks are the arms as well? You'll most likely break the oil pan seal if you remove the arms.
You can jack the engine up from the trans after removing the pair of nuts that hold the motor mount to the subframe, just don't get too crazy with it as you don't want to put unnecessary strain on your coolant lines, clutch line etc.

I have a lift that hooks to the ceiling could I use that to keep the engine lifted while I have the mounts out? I have to ship them off to chip motor sports to have them changed over to poly..
take the nuts off both mounts to the subframe. i dropped one side of the subframe as well, did one side, bolt back up, and dropped the other side of the subframe, pry bars help. no oil leaks and no alignment issues.
i might have had my transmission unbolted because i was replacing that at the same time

Why not just swap over to another steel arm and put his motor mounts right on? Thats what I did. Ofcourse there is the contraversal issue of the extra nub on the alluminum mount. I can post picures up of my Chips mounts and nub solution later if need be, as I am in the proccess of sealing my oil pan.

I replaced mine recent with a set of "street" mounts from IRPerformance, without removing the engine. So its definitely possible, but as mentioned above - you risk breaking the oil pan seal if you remove the arms.

The mount arms actually help hold the oil pan onto the bottom of the motor. When you take off the mounts, it releases the pressure that holds the back of the oil pan to the motor, and this can break the seal. It's definitely luck whether the seal breaks or not, but I believe it will break more often than not.
so pretty much 9 times out of 10 it will break, and the only way to really change it is if your ready to buy a new seal.. which while on topic, is it hard to replace it while the motors in the car?

^ Obviously you would want to use a jack stand once you have the transmission slightly-lifted.
You could also drop the subframe by first suspend the motor. From RENESISFD's thread: https://www.rx7club.com/showpost.php...&postcount=109
