I hate to waste your time Junkie, but would I be better off doing your port of sticking with the stock ports and going turbo? Like a GT35 or something similar

it all depends on what you want.

turbo will get you way more power than porting alone. not even a comparisone there. but porting AND a turbo cna not only land you more power, than turbo alone, but better fuel economy, and believe it or not, MORE RELIABILITY! this si of course assuming proper tuning and a reliable setup.

first reason being is the exhaust ports are very restrictive and even though there's zero overlap, there is still a little reversion that goes on, due to the exhaust backpressure. this is exponentially amplified when you add boost to the mix. so by doing the exhaust porting, you give the exhaust a much smoother path out of the engine. more power, less backpressure, better fuel economy through efficiency.

the second is the side seals tend to catch on the closing edge of the secondary port. this scuffs up the edge of the port and rounds out the end of the side seal, causing a compression loss--which means loss of power, fuel economy and efficiency. not to mention more blowby in the crankcase. so radiusing the edge of the ports helps flow, but works twofold on the closing edge of the secondary port by preserving the edge of the sideseal.

search over on rx8club.com. i've done a lot of work on the renny's and have posted a buttload of info over there.

pickin's are slim on the turbo kits. you've got the greedy, or the speedforce.

I have been thinking about either the PTP kit or maybe just the RB reflash and keeping the engine stock. Any idea on porting cost if I just pull the engine and sent it to you? I obviously have everything else.

Is the PTP kit even out? Are they even still in business, I haven't been able to access their site lately.

Ask them what's up with their page!
So does that mean their kit is out?

should be about $1500. new rubber stuff all around, recycled hard seals (assuming it's pretty low milage). if you want to replace the hard seals, i'll call and see what they're going for right now because the price fluctuates weekly.

or you could just pick up that one i already have. it's broken in--just run a tank of gas through it because it's been sitting for a month. trade your old motor and i'll do it for $1k + shipping
