Removing turbo heat sheilds
Can they be removed completely? I have a completely stock setup, and I'm trying to diagnose an exhaust or inlet gasket leak. So I need access and it's really crowded.
Any tips for finding a leak in that jam-packed area are appreciated. I'm not sure how I'll get to test any part of the LIM-engine gasket.

The heat shields can be removed, but it is very tight. You may have to bend the upper one a little to get it out. It should be easy enough to bend it back.
Since you are in there, you should consider installing a DP .......... a must for an FD

I have a downpipe, and I've pulled it twice in the last month (most recent to install a new gasket). I'm getting frighteningly good at it.
But the leaky sound and slight smell persist. I'm debating whether it's worthwhile to try and pinpoint the leak first, or just buy the gasket set, pull everything down to the block (to change the manifold and LIM gaskets) and put it back in.
